Jyris, located in Kumpula, was originally built in 1920 and is a two-storey wooden house, partly log and partly timber-framed. Over the years, the house has undergone several extensions and additions.
Oranssi Asunnot took over the entire lease in 2004 from the City of Helsinki, but before that Oranssi had already rented individual apartments in the house since 2001. Oranssi bought the building in 2014, when it was renovated.
Jyris House is protected in the zoning plan with the sr-2 designation. The house has a rusticated floor and a natural stone foundation. The roof is a multi-dimensional seam-jointed tin roof. The roof has three balconies, which give the roof a multi-faceted appearance. The house has four studio apartments ranging in size from 24 to 40 m². The apartments are mainly heated by in-room stoves. Water is heated by a communal boiler located in one of the apartments. There is a communal shower room.
The house is officially located in a park area. It includes a fairly large yard bordering a wooded area. In the yard there is a chicken coop built by the residents, as well as an old storage building.
