Villa Johannesberg in Vanhakaupunki was built in 1887. It is a two-storey house. The first floor is brick, the second floor is of log construction. The house was designed by J. Westerlund.
The building is situated in a historically valuable location in Kellomäki in the Vanhakaupunki of Helsinki. The building is protected with the designation sr-2 and is considered to be of local and provincial value. Oranssi Asunnot rented the building in 2001 and renovated it. Among other things, the building’s foundation was completely renewed, as was the plasterwork on the brick wall on the first floor and the electrical wiring. Later in 2004, Oranssi Asunnot bought the building from the City of Helsinki.
The house currently consists of two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments of 35-47 m². The apartments are mainly heated by room-specific stoves or chimneys. Each apartment has its own toilet, kitchen and hot water heater. The residents share a common laundry room with a courtyard sauna built in 2009, which includes a shower room, dressing room, toilet, laundry and storage.
The entire land is a heritage site and no excavation work may be carried out on it without the permission of the City Museum.
